Commemorating Four Decades of Heartfelt Dedication at Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary

Nestled on the verdant western slopes of Hawaii Island is a treasure – the enchanting Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary. This unique cloud forest cradles majestic towering trees, rare fauna and flora, an orchestra of birds, and ethereal clouds that meander through the lush emerald canopy.

In 2023 the sanctuary marked its 40th anniversary – a testament to the fervent dedication of founder Norman Bezona, his ohana, and supporters. Inspired by a vision to demonstrate that it is possible to reforest within a single lifetime and guided by the heart, the sanctuary blossomed into a dynamic living classroom. Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary has been hosting educational tours, student lectures, and workshops, for nearly four decades.  What started with student groups and heart-led lectures by  Norman Bezona, fruited with global visibility when the sanctuary launched their first website iteration in 2005.

Sharing a Hawaiian Haven with the World

Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary’s ethos is to cultivate loving connection, curated through transformational experiences in the cloud forest. As we all deepen our awareness that we are connected as one with the Earth, this enables profound transformation to occur within and outside of ourselves.  By thoughtfully facilitating nature connectedness, the sanctuary has gained supporters from around the world who champion the initiatives of the sanctuary, expanding the collective of regenerative communities.

We are proud of our many partners including the Better Business Bureau who are a testament of our excellent operations and community stewardship. “This external validation reflects decades of committed effort by our ohana and extended team,” says Cloud Forest Stewards.

Continuing the Mission

As the sanctuary envisions the future, the focus remains rooted in preservation, awareness,  and cultural perpetuation. Expanding forest restoration and native species protection as well as engaging young stewards is an exciting priority.

“We plan to lead by example in sustainable practices and community partnership,” Cloud Forest Stewards remarked. “Our success stems from people joining together out of care for this special habitat and our planet.”

Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary stands as a testament to the power of heart-led initiatives designed to restore, nurture, and sustain the beauty of our natural world for future generations. Forty years of forest revitalization, educational tours, and workshops, set a solid foundation to tackle looming challenges ahead. But it takes all of us who cherish green sanctuaries like Kona Cloud Forest to secure our futures. Here’s to four more decades and beyond of stewarding this extraordinary cloud forest!
