Trail Improvement

Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary is currently discussing ideas for trail improvement which will include the addition of new trails, volcanic cinder for a smooth walking experience, signs that describe areas of interest along the forest path and an elevated trail over the 1801 lava flow of Hualalai Volcano.

The Dawn and Dine Tour

Kona Cloud Forest will soon be providing additional tour options; the Dawn and Dine tour is for early risers who have the desire to walk through the cloud forest as it awakens with dapples of sun and shadow. Mornings in the cloud forest are most special where one will feel transported to an unreal, magical realm. You will be acutely aware of the humming of insects and moisture dripping from leaves; humbled by the vagrant rays of light that glow on the forest flora. This is the best time of day to view the endemic bird, the honey creeper. When you return from this enchanting walk you will be invited to enjoy a light and healthy brunch before setting off toward the next adventure of your day in Hawai'i.

Education

We continue to encourage educators and horticulture enthusiasts to utilize Kona Cloud Forest for field trips, workshops and lectures. We provide a living classroom that brings to life the subjects often not covered in written material. We are open to further alignment with organizations and educational institutions, expanding our offerings in tropical cloud forest education.

Meeting Lodge

Kona Cloud Forest is in the conceptual stage of providing a meeting lodge which will stimulate the mind and spirit, and bring perspective and inspiration to guests. In harmony with nature we will create a place for human connection and physical comfort ideal for celebrations, educational workshops and seminars, meetings and reunions.

Reverence for the natural cloud forest is an essential element of the Kona Cloud Forest mission and vision. We aspire to be models for both eco-building and ecotourism.

Environmental considerations, including cloud forest protection, resource minimization and energy efficiency are uppermost as the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary enhances the experiences in nature that we provide to our guests. As we consider these plans we will continue our commitment to tropical cloud forest protection.
